Spring 2018: MMB Capstone Project
The final project of the MMB program is the capstone project. During this project, I worked with a team of four other MMB second-years to develop a novel product idea and the business model to support successful commercialization of the product. My team chose to focus on the unmet need of quality science education for homeschooling parents. Our final product design was a subscription box service that provides parents with a full curriculum and accompanying materials to conduct relevant labs each month. The document found below is an update presentation I gave around the middle of the semester, prior to several subsequent product-market shifts.
Fall 2017: Cancer Genetics Inc.
As part of the Master of Microbial Biotechnology program, my classmates and I work in small teams as graduate consultants for local biotechnology companies. This past semester I was the team lead for a project with Cancer Genetics Inc. Our main goal for the semester was to develop strategies for the commercialization of CGI's clinical diagnostic data. To accomplish such a task required that the team first learn the intricacies involved in healthcare data commercialization and big data analytics. This was accomplished through extensive secondary research and conducting informational interviews with experts in the field. As a result, our team was successful in presenting 3 strategies for CGI to implement in commercializing their data and our report has been reported to have made an impact on CGI's business strategy in the space. Shown below is a brief summary of the project overall with a few of the key findings.
Spring 2017: Locus Biosciences
During the spring of 2017 I was on a team working with Locus Biosciences. Locus has a patented CRIPSR-Cas3 technology capable of selectively targeting bacterial species and deleting their DNA. Our overall task for the semester was surveying the microbiota literature landscape to identify novel causative bacterial species in major health conditions for Locus to target. After finding potential targets we were then asked to build the business case for the identified species, and research any relevant bacteriophages currently available (they use bacteriophages for delivery). The culmination of our research was a presentation, deliverable, and ranked spreadsheet of literature assessed. Below you can find a copy of our final presentation given at NCSU.
Fall 2016: BASF
This semester, my team and I worked with the chemical company BASF. The project we were given consisted of a landscape overview of antimicrobial peptides and an assessment of current antifouling products for aquatic environments. As a team we created a complete market profile that included: market financial analysis, patent/competitive landscape, current product offerings, novel technology literature review, and future product cost analysis. This work was completed over the course of three months and offered to the company in a final report, the executive summary of which can be found below:
